Robert Orchardson News From Nowhere
![]() Talented young Scottish artist Orchardson makes bold and colourful sculptural works that are inspired by 1960's and 1970's design and architecture combined with his highly detailed paintings of figures and scenes from classic sci-fi films. In one work a character from Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey is painted onto a seamless white curved wall and appears to float towards the viewer. Orchardson looks at how we looked towards the future and considers how we respond to our changing relationships with technology, nature and faith.
'Orchardson is interested in exploring the expectations, aspirations and fears that are projected onto what we do not and cannot ever really know.' Exhibition guide 'Beyond', DCA, Dundee, 2001 Robert Orchardson was born in 1976 and is based in Dundee. This is his first solo exhibition since graduating from Duncan of Jordanstone, Dundee in 1998. Previous exhibitions include 'Beyond', Dundee Contemporary Arts, 2001 and 'Tales of Ordinary Madness', Patriothall, Edinburgh, 1999. In the past two years Orchardson has undertaken a number of public commissions including a series of large scale lightboxes at Dundee City Airport, 2000.
