Scottish Experience | An American Dance - 1 Day Tour From Stirling
|
Cost £240 for a group of up to 6 people. When Dr Johnson and his friend James Boswell visited the Hebrides in 1773 the people on the Isle of Skye performed a Dance they called ‘America’ to show their enthusiasm for Emigration. Throughout the 18th and 19th centuries many thousands of Scots moved to America and this tour discusses the contribution some of them made, indeed they say that around 60% of American presidents had Scottish ancestry and 21 of the signatories of the Declaration of Independence were Scots or of Scots descent.
The American privateer ‘The Ranger’ appeared in this bay and plundered the house of the Earl of Selkirk. They still hover in the bay.
Our route then takes us to Callander House in Falkirk the home of the Livingston family, and also the site of the Battle of Falkirk in 1746. Another interesting stop is Dunfermline, the birthplace of Andrew Carnegie where we can still see the cottage he was born in. All of these places have links with America so come along and find out why.
Initially this will be a one day tour, however we have plans to extend this to 4 or 5 days using Stirling as a base because of its central position. So if a longer tour with the theme being Scottish/American history would be of interest then please contact Claymore Travel in Stirling It is not necessary to pay any entrance fees on this tour although there are one or two places such as Stirling Castle that you may visit if you wish. I will be happy to give you a guided tour, however entrance fees are not included in the price. The price quoted of £240 is for a group up to 6 people, however we can carry up to 10 people in comfort and would be happy to quote for a larger group.
