The Maize Maze

Open mid July

Find your way through the amazing Maize Maze. The naturally grown maze covers an area of 5 acres and reaches a height of over 6 feet, creating pathways that will enthral, disorientate and infuriate.

The maze this year will be in the design of a Rhinoceros. This year we will have a simple quiz trail where there will be an additional charge of £1 to enter when the weather conditions are favourable.

It will take at least 1 hour to complete the whole maze.
All children under 16 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.

First Speilart Installation in Scotland

We are pleased to announce that we have invested in the latest outdoor play equipment from Speilart.

The play equipment is hand-crafted in Robinia timber and combines a natural look with excellent play value. We are installing three new play structures:
A cable ride, a play structure for the preschoolers and a larger play structure for the bigger children. My own children helped in choosing the designs and are looking forward to the equipment arriving.

The play structures will be located in the larger grass area that we opened up last year but will still leave plenty of room for outdoor games and running around.

Family Fun Area

After you have conquered the Maize Maze there is entertainment for all ages in the Funyard area. Jumping Pillows, Tractor Go Karts, Cable Ride, Outdoor Play structures, Mini Diggers, Tyre Maze, Sand Pits, Football Skills Game and Animal Paddocks.

Jumping Pillows
A great way of exercising and having fun, low level with no sharp edges or steep sides to fall off, it’s a fun and healthy way to keep children and adults entertained all day long.

The current information we have been given regarding the use of the jumping pillows is that “adults and children are able to use the pillows together providing they are acting in a safe and sensible manner”.

There will be increased staff supervision during busy periods to ensure these rules are adhered to. Please be aware that if staff feel that the safety of users is at risk, we will limit the number of people using the pillows and may have to ask some people to come off.

Straw Mountain
There is some good news in that we hope to build a smaller straw mountain for the school summer holidays, subject to approval from Building Control!

Marquee and Snack Bar

we are excited to announce that we intend to build a new Visitor Centre due to open in 2011.

This new building is currently being designed by Wb-arc Architects who designed the Dunblane Centre. The new building will incorporate a coffee stop, large indoor family cafeteria with undercover astraslide, office space, retail space and toilet facilities. Design drawings and artist’s impressions of the new centre will be on display during the season. We hope to have the building ready for opening for Easter 2011; the new facility will give us some much needed undercover facilities and allow us to extend our opening season.

To replace Mary’s Kitchen we will be installing a temporary Marquee and Snack Bar to provide catering facilities for visitors until the new centre is open. We will be serving hot and cold filled rolls, hot and cold drinks and of course delicious homebaking.

Briarlands Farm Shop
Open seasonally from 7th May to 7th September

briarlands farm shop blairdrummond stirling

We have sold strawberries direct from the farm since June 2000.

We also stock homemade jams and chutneys made from our own fruit, homebaking from Mary’s Kitchen and gifts for the family.

Strawberries and Raspberries
We erected six large polytunnels in 2004 to grow protected strawberries for selling direct off farm and to local delicatessans. The strawberries are grown in peat bags suspened on wires. This eliminates the need for any weedkillers and slug repellents and ensures clean, easily picked fruit.

In 2005 we erected 2 further polytunnels. One for more strawberries and one to grow raspberries. We also have a small number of fruit bushes which produce blackcurrants, redcurrants and gooseberries.

We do not use any chemicals on this fruit and they are used in our homemade jams. We also have a small orchard where we grow plums, apples and pears. These are also used in our own jams and chutneys.

We are not a Pick Your Own farm, our fruit is available to buy in our farmshop in season.

Animal Paddocks
2008 saw Briarlands Farm welcome some friends from Glendrick Roost Animal Welfare Centre. These include Shetland Ponies, Donkeys, a Goat and various Rabbits and Guinea Pigs.

Glendrick Roost offers a home for abandoned and abused animals. At present they are looking for new premises to house all their animals (www.glendrickroost.org.uk). Unfortunately we don't have room to have them all here so a few of the animals are coming for their summer holidays.

If you would like to make a donation to the centre please visit their website or we have donation boxes at the farm.
